The first cigar in Ybor city is produced at the Sanchez y Haza factory.  The factory was located at 7th Avenue and 15th Street.

Shred-a-thon in Tampa, May 7th, 2011

The Tampa Bay Professional Organizers Association is holding their annual shred-a-thon in Tampa, on May 7th.



Proceeds will benefit the MacDonald Training Center.

Water walking, white party

MSNBC just came out with an article today that discusses the dangers of "water walking" that was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

In case you don't know what they are talking about, below is a video of "water walking" from the 13 Ugly Men White Party in 2010.



I certainly have no objection to "water walking" in this video!

By the way, the 13 Ugly Men annual white party is scheduled this year for Saturday, April 9th, 2011. Hopefully they will have more "water walkers".

On this date in Tampa history:  March 1, 1908

A fire starts at 12th avenue and 20th street in Ybor City, and destroys 18 blocks and 5 factories.  Damage is estimated to be $1 million, with a loss of approximately 1,000 jobs.

Here is the excerpt for the Tampa Tribune a couple of days later:

“Tampa has suffered the severed blow in all its history. The conflagration which on Sunday morning swept over Ybor City , a hurricane of flame, left desolation in its path – a desolate waste of territory, desolate families in want of bread and, worst of all, desolate hearts that ache in the intensity of their anguish,” (Tampa Tribune, March 3, 1908).
